World FT Championship 2020 in South Africa - postponed

Post by JeffH » Sun May 10, 2020 1:05 pm

Hi All,

An update regarding the World FT Championship in South Africa. It has officially been pushed back to 2021. This means the USA will host in 2022.

Below is the official announcement from the WFTF President, Sergio Rita and the letter from the South African organizing Chairman, Wian Strydom.

Regards,
JeffH
CAFTA President

From Sergio:

"Dear FT Community,

I would like to inform you about the decision made by the World Field Target Federation related with the spread of the COVID 19 virus and regarding the World Field Target Championship 2021 in South Africa.

According to the recent evolution of the virus, Medical experts predict that South Africa will only reach the apex of our infection in September of 2020, mainly because SA are entering in the winter season.

We also received from the SA organization that it would be extremely difficult to host the WFTC2020.

On the other hand, we already have countries saying that for safety matters will not attend the championship.

Finally, the WFTF is monitoring the situation and following the World Health Care Organization instructions.

Based on all this information, the decision made is to postpone the 2020 Championship. This means SA will host the World FT Championship 2021 and USA 2022.

Sincerely,
_____________
Sérgio Rita
WFTF President

RE: Postponement of WFTC2020

Dear FT Friends

The outbreak of Covid-19 and its rapid spread across the world has caught us by surprise. Most nations are experiencing severe disruption to their economies in general and to people’s lives more specifically.

South Africa is in the sixth week of a general lockdown that has seen the closure of borders, suspension of both domestic and international travel, curtailment of most economic activities and cancellation of all sporting events. Medical experts predict that South Africa will only reach the apex of our infection in September of 2020, mainly because we are entering our winter season.

Given the global progression of the disease and the regulations imposed by the South African government, it would be extremely difficult to host the WFTC2020. The South African Field Target Airgun Association (SAFTAA) therefore supports the WFTF’s decision to postpone the championship until next year.

----

All entries will remain valid for those that want to participate in the championship in 2021.

The resort where the event will be hosted allows for the cancellation of accommodation at a nominal charge (Euro 3.9, USD 4.25) if done more than 2 months before arrival.

The safety and health of all competitors and guests is very important to us and we are confident that postponing the event will be the best way to limit exposure and manage the risk of contracting the disease.

We wish you good health and we hope to see you in 2021.

Regards

Wian Strydom
SAFTAA Chairman
