Will try something here and see if I can get others to join in. I will write a short note about my experience at the Nationals and about the division and class I shot in.

I competed in the WFTF Piston class and absolutely knew it would be a tough class. The field had tons of experience in it, right down to Dave shooting only his third match, first two day match, in this class. We had shooters who have attended the World match on quite a few occasions and definitely have experience under pressure.

Add to the above the fact that this was probably the most difficult match we have ever had at the Nationals. There were not many spots where you could relax and be quite sure you were going to score a hit.

On day one, Joel was on fire and scored an amazing 54/60 on the odd numbers course. I was a distant second at 48 and quite a few others scored in the fourties. So the stage was set for day two and it would require a stellar day for anyone to challenge Joel.

In the minds of most of the guys, day two, the even number course, was even tougher. I shot with Joel and we were quite close for most of the day and ended up quite close as well. Joel missed a few head scratchers late in the match and still managed a 46/60. I felt I shot better on this course than the day before and ended up with 48/60 again. Zach made a good run, ending up with 47 on day two. So the medals went to Zach for third, Myself for second and Joel took home the well earned title of Canadian Champion for WFTF Piston class.

Overall, it was a great weekend and many thanks to Tom and all of those who helped in a variety of ways to make the match a success. Thanks to Travis and to Tom and the Port Club for again providing an excellent draw/prize table at the end of the match.

Great friends, great shooting, great food and great weather; nowhere else I would rather have been.

On a side note, I was really feeling for Dennis Eden who was too ill to take part on Saturday, but still set up his lanes on Friday afternoon in spite of feeling terrible. That's dedication. This is only the second time Dennis has missed this match since the late 90s.
