WFTF Diana 54 Field Target Rig

Post by pirellip » Fri Jan 31, 2014 11:04 am

I ordered a 12fpe Diana 54 from Héctor Medina awhile ago and a GINB stock to go along with it. I finally was able to pick it up and get it shooting. VERY IMPRESSIVE.

This has one of Héctor's HMO pistons in it, a custom cocking linkage and other things done to it to make it a sweet shooter. I changed the trigger adjustment springs, so it now has a short first stage pull.
While heavier and longer than my HW77K, the GINB stock actually fits much better - I think in part because the hamster is longer and height adjustable. Cocking is a joke, I have to pull out my FWB 300S to see how it compares, but it's not tiring at all.

Not only is it accurate, but more importantly, it's EASY to shoot accurately. I took 6 shots to zero at 13 yards, then I started to punch out 1/4" holes pretty consistently. A miss to me is when the pellet isn't entirely within the circle, and when I did miss, the pellet would usually be still mostly within the circle. I then tried my HW77K as a reference, and I really had to bear down to achieve hits, and when I'd miss, it was often by a large margin.

I have a Leupold Competition 40x that has been coated silver, re-parallaxed to 10 yards and had a duplex reticle installed along with the AZ wheel and turret.

Overall, if this performance keeps up, I'll continue to be VERY pleased.

Wow! That looks great. The side lever also makes it possible for easier knee riser use. The hook is something I need on my TX200 since I find that it wants to pull away from my shoulder on standing and kneeling shots. (Have to talk to Len I guess) Should be easy enough, for Len that is, to adapt one to the butt plate on the Macarri stock

We have an indoor rifle FT match coming up in March and I look forward to seeing you in action with it. Keep shooting those tiny groups.

On my HW77K, I use this one from Champions's Choice. At $125, it's very affordable.

On my D-54, the hook is one solid piece of Delrin. When you consider the block dimensions required to make this, it's gotta be expensive!

That rifle holds really nice. The hook was not on it when I had it in my hands (actually before Tom held it) but it still came up to point like it was made to fit me. We were unboxing it and as it turned out, I ended up with it coming out of the bubble wrap. I actually said that he should have held it first, not me. The woodwork is exemplary and with a few more coats of oil, should turn out to be one spectacular bit of furniture. It's a good looking setup, Tom. A few days at the club and you should be good to go. Take care.
