Ontario Provincial Championship 2018

Post by Mac » Sat May 19, 2018 2:16 pm

The Provincial Championship will be hosted by the Grenville Club on Saturday, August 11th, 2018.

The match will take place on a 20 lane course with three targets per lane and one shot per target, resulting in a 60 shot match. There will be a four minute limit to take the three shots per lane. Many of the regulars would have to go at half speed to get even close to using up that much time. Except for the hit zone sizes and three targets per lane, this will be very much like a WFTF match. The biggest difference, most will find, is that you do not get a second chance if you miss the first shot.

The gates will be open by 8:00 AM and the sight-in will start at 9:00 AM. There is no shooting allowed at the Grenville club before 9:00 AM, so that is why the range opens at that time. I think I will allow a full hour of sighting this time and have the shooter's meeting at 10:00 AM. The match will start at 10:15 and should last two and a half to three hours. At that time, any shoot-offs would be held, if necessary. Results would then be tallied and awards given out.

A couple of thing will, in all likelihood, result in this timeline being altered as time passes. There is a good chance that there will be some form of fun shoot on the sight-in course from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, like the gunslinger event we had last year. It was a blast! That would push the match start time to 11:15 AM.

There has also been talk of a shooting positions clinic being part of the Provincials, although this may be held in June in order give you time to work on your own shooting positions before the Nationals and provincials. We have a few experienced shooters that would be happy to share their preferences for the three types of shooting in FT. So depending on who attends the June match, we will announce when the clinic will be held.

There is also a good possibility that camping, in tents only, will be allowed this year at this match. If there are some that want to camp, I would come on Friday and camp over so we would have use of the washrooms, etc. On the map, linked below, the camping could be to the right when you pull in where it says "Enter" on the map. It is a nice grassy area with a pond and vegetation between the camping area and the road. This area puts us directly across from the clubhouse and well away from the house at the top of the map. I know some guys snore pretty loud.

I will be posting a reminder at the beginning of August for this match, but feel free to contact me if you already know you will be attending; I have the signup sheet ready to go. I will add a running total of how many are in each class as I receive notifications.
