In spite of the dismal forecast, starting over a week before the match, it steadily became less dismal and the day actually turned out very nice. There was a brisk breeze all day that was less evident in the woods, but very tricky to read. The wind claimed more than a few victims. We had 22 shooters that included four that had not participated in a match at Port.
We had an adjustment to make at the start of the match since one of the people setting up two lanes, woke up a very sick lad. We did not let it bother us and just went with the eight lanes. Normally we have a sixty shot match and not wanting to shoot less, we decided to take three shots per target on all lanes except the standing and kneeling lanes. For some of us, six discipline shots on one lane is plenty! So instead of 60 shots, we ended up with a six shot bonus, resulting in a 66 shot match. No one complained about having extra shots.
The Hunter Division was the largest, with 12 shooters, seven in PCP and five in piston. The pcp class had lots of high scores, but Larry topped the group with 115 out of a possible 132.
The piston class also featured some great scores and James won the class with a very impressive 110/132.
The Open PCP Class was made up of six shooters and very tight scores. Dean had a great day and managed to finish just one point ahead to record the win, scoring 63 out of a possible 66.
The WFTF Piston Class rounded out the field with a group of four shooters. The top two especially had very high scores for piston guns and Joel achieved the top score of 56/66.
Thanks to all that attended and special thanks to the guys that set up lanes for the match. The quick acceptance and positive response to the change we had to make in the match showed the great character of FT shooters.
The next match at Port will be on Saturday, June 27th and this one will have an elevated difficulty rating as it has traditionally been the preparation match for the CAFTA Nationals on the third weekend in July. Get those rigs and the operators tuned up for some challenging field target.
