June 21st Port FT Match --Pics- Results

Postby Mac » Thu Jun 12, 2014 9:27 pm

In just over a week, the second match of the outdoor season at Port Colborne will be upon us. The match is on June 21, 2014 and will be a full 60 shot rifle FT match on either 10 or 15 lanes. I will be opening the gates at 8:00 AM to get things set up and the sight-in range should be available by 9:30 AM. The shooter's meeting will be at 10:45 and the match will start at 11:00 AM. The sight-in range will be shut down at 10:45, so be sure to get there early enough if you want some sight-in time.

The difficulty of this match will be a little higher than the May match, in preparation for the CAFTA Nationals next month.

All classes will be offered, but at least two shooters are needed in a CAFTA class in order to have an award.

Open Division: PCP and Piston classes (20 ft/lb max)
Hunter Division: PCP, Piston and Junior classes (20 ft/lb max)
WFTF Division: PCP and Piston classes (12 ft/lb max)
Junior Hunter Class if we have some juniors (20 ft/lb max)

Please let me know as soon as you can, or at the latest, the Wednesday morning before the match, if you will be attending. Please include what division and class you will be shooting in as many say they will attend, but do not say what class they will shoot in.

See you at the Port Club.

Port Colborne Field Target Club
Results for June 21, 2014
We were blessed with another great day, with the temperature reaching the mid twenties on the Celsius scale and some light, variable wind that could cause problems on the longer ones if you were not paying close attention. Twenty shooters made it out to this one, including three shooting at Port for the first time. The match difficulty was intentionally bumped up a bit, aiming for the low thirties and we hit the mark fairly well with a 32.7T rating on this match, without factoring in the breeze or any dark targets. This was intended as a warm up to the CAFTA Nationals next month and I think it served that purpose.
We had a great mix of shooters across the divisions represented and the hunter division with nine shooters was the largest group. Josh was shooting his Discovery for the very first time and he and his dad were busy setting up a zero and aim points on the sight-in range before the match. As those aim points get refined, no doubt, more targets will start to fall. Josh did well and managed to knock down five targets, including some real tough ones out around the 50-yard mark. Great shooting, Josh.
The Hunter PCP group had five shooting, which included two first time shooters here at Port. Jack enjoyed a great day with his son Josh and did well shooting a gun that he was learning the aim points with as he went along. Tim T. shot with us for his second time and his score was close to the last one on a significantly more difficult course. Dave shot with us for the first time and faired very well, placing third in the class. Chris H. shot very well, as he always does, and placed second. Tony really has his Marauder sorted out, managing 30 knock downs on his way to a first place finish.
Hunter piston had three shooters, all of which can win the class when they have a good day. Marshall did not have a good day, but still managed a decent scope and a third place finish. I believe, James was shooting his gun combination for the first time at Port and did very well, pulling off a second place. Larry just continues to improve with every match and took the top spot this time.
Open PCP lost a few shooters at the last moment, but still had a good competitive group. By their standard, most in the group felt they had rough day. The kneeling and standing lanes were the most difficult we have ever had at the Port Club and I was called a few names other than my given name for setting those up. At the halfway point, it was even, with everyone down five shots, so the second half would be the decider. Dennis, shooting his new AA gun for the first time had some difficulty in the second half, which I am sure he will address before the next one. Len had a day many would be happy with, placing third, but he was not pleased, so look out at the next one. Dean improved in the second half, only dropping three and took second. My shooting partner, Don, was not pleased with the first half and mentally gave himself a boot, resulting in only dropping one shot in the second half and taking first place.
The WFTF piston class ended up with four shooters after a few had to drop out for things that came up at the last minute. It is good to see the popularity of the piston guns surging in our area. Ted broke out the TX for the first time in a bit and did very well with it. Tom placed a solid third in the class and Mike, who continues to improve, shot a great match to place second in a tough group. George is continually refining his rig and getting it ready for the Nationals and the World match and it sure looks like that process if progressing well, placing him at the top for this match.
The WFTF pcp group included Dave B. shooting in his first FT match in a very tough class. His score is certainly an indication that he will be one to watch in the not too distant future. It was great to welcome Chris N., after about a two-year absence from the sport following his move to Sundridge, ON, “home”, two seasons ago. Chris was shooting a Daystate rifle he has been working on for a couple of years. For the first time using it, he did extremely well, placing a very close second. I had one of those days when the crosshairs do exactly what you want, except for a couple of wiggles, and enjoyed watching the targets fall. I managed to take the top spot by a single point.
Many thanks to all who attended and to the group that set up targets and helped tear them down as well; that adds to my day immeasurably. I hope that many of you are getting your rigs fine-tuned for the CAFTA Nationals on July 19th and 20th. We will be setting up and shooting all day Friday, the 18th and then will enjoy two days of shooting, eating and socializing. We also are lucky enough to have Travis from Air Gun Source coming down Sunday and setting up some display tables for folks to look at and purchase all sort of air gun gear. This is a do not miss event for Canadian FT shooters. See you there.
