FT shoot Aug 24

Post by bjp » Tue Aug 12, 2014 3:52 pm

Our fourth shoot of 2014 will be Sunday, August 24th, rain or shine.

If the weather is decent on Saturday, we would like to set up some lanes in
the woodlot and need a couple of volunteers to help clear vegetation. Let
[email protected] know if you're available. Dave is away for the rest of August (and won't have access to this mailing list) so I will be looking after things this month.

If you haven't been out to a shoot yet and don't have a rifle, come out
anyway and borrow a gun. For those of you with a foster fitting on your
PCP gun.
We will start setting up at 8:30, do some sighting in and try to start the
match by 10:00. If you would be available to help setup woodlot lanes on
Saturday morning, let me know. It takes more time to set up at the end of
the runway and we can get underway faster if some lanes are set up in
advance....

We will have have 10 lanes with a total of 60 shots and we will toss in a
standing and a kneeling lane for the main match. If you're bringing
targets, please have them freshly painted with KZ that are a contrasting
colour.

In addition to your gun and pellets please bring along a pen, clipboard ,
stopwatch and something to sit on (cushion or pad, not a chair) for the
many seated shots. If you want to do sighting in please bring along a
carton with targets attached. If you cut a couple of holes in the carton
on one side near the bottom, you can run a string through the holes and
then pull the target closer to you to check your elevation settings
without needing a cease fire for everyone.

There will be a couple of airguns that people can borrow, and several
fancy FT rifles to check out.

Speed is fine but accuracy is final. You must learn to slow down in a hurry.

Well, we had a very nice day on Sat to set up. Because we had less targets than usual we went with an 8 lane, 48 shot match. 4 lanes on the runway, 3 in the woods and one in the pathway between the 2. As usual we had Duncan running the Toro up and down with targets, water etc. always appreciated though he seemed hell bent on running me over !!!! We had a good breeze on Sat during set up so it looked like the wind would be a factor for the match.

Sunday dawned even nicer than Sat and no wind whatsoever so it was HOT !!!!!! We had 10 shooters out with 2 new people. Started at 10 and everyone was done by 12.30. As usual, the help to tear down was much appreciated. There was a really good array of targets, some of the runway ones had a lot of shadows and heat mirage that made ranging interesting and the ones in the woods were in challenging light conditions. All in all a great way to spend a Sunday (i don't think I said "airguns are stupid" a single time !!!!), bit of course we all missed Dave. the results were as follows:

Hunter (out of 96; don't know who was piston or PCP so they're together)

John Bradley 81
Jim Martin 80
Duncan Shea 71
Nick Poll 78 (new shooter)
Terry Sheppard 67 (new shooter (I think))
Stacey Cherwonak 63 (in a kilt !!!)
John R 34
Vitaly 26

WFTF PCP (out of 48)
Brian Milne 40
John Birch 32 ( John was a bit rushed on the last lane as he had to go to work to do inventory. He works in a cemetary, I can only imagine what the heck is there to count!!)
Already looking forward to the next match.
