Ottawa FT match Sunday, Nov 3

Post by dHb » Sun Nov 03, 2013 5:18 pm

Even with a below freezing start, we had 8 people show up despite the cold (and lack of advance notice). It was a beautiful Fall day with a gusting North wind. On some of the targets the low sun played havoc with those who didn't have very extended sun shields. There'll be details to follow once the match director finishes his Scotch and thaws out.

I only snapped a couple of photos in two of the woodlot lanes.

We ended up with a decent turnout considering the late notice and the cool temperatures. The forecast for the weekend had been pretty foul so I didn't send out a notice when it looked like it was going to be both cold and wet. As you can see from the photos it ended up being a beautiful day.

We got off to a too leisurely start so a couple of shooters had to leave before finishing the ten lanes (3 targets each). Those who hadn't shot previously in the new location were very impressed.

WFTF PCP (out of 60 points)
51 Dave B
31 John B
5 James (who started the day by buggering up his scope's zero)

Open Piston
12 Jim after 4 lanes
4 Steve after 3 lanes

Hunter (out of 120 points)
92 John
76 Frank

It was great to see the "Easterners" out for a match before the season ended. Hopefully, this will mark the beginning of a trend. If anyone else in the Montreal area is looking to carpool, let me know and I'll put you in touch with others from that area. We've missed the Quebecois contingent this season.

Unfortunately (for us), James is moving to the Toronto area to start a new job. Hopefully, he'll be in the mood for lots of driving and we'll see him at shoots here or in Port Colbourne next year.

I just ordered a 12' telescoping ladder from Amazon so future competitions will feature some targets higher up.

If we get some mild weather this month, there may be another shoot in a couple of weeks. I'll try and give more notice.

If the weather is good on the 11th and you'd like to get together for a practice session, send me a note. We have a fair number of government workers and retirees who may be available that day...

Duh, the natural resting position for the Eastern Ontario Red Bird is hanging upside down.

It had nothing to do with the foot of water in the ditch on the other side of the tree.

PS. Take six points off my score. I realized this morning that (without BJP's supervision) I shot the kneeling lane from the sitting position. Oops. Although, on one 12m target I didn't reset my elevation dial from the previous 27m target and got a miss, thinking, "That's what Brian would have done..."
